While some of these might not strictly be in London Fields, all of them are within a 10-20 minute walk away from Fold.
London Field’s Lido
It’s the weekend, you’ve been cooped up at your desk all week and feeling the need to get invigorated with exercise. London Field’s Lido is the perfect option. Having been neglected for so many years, locals decided to band together to get the pool back in shape so that the surrounding community could have a place to swim, a vital skill in life. Since reopening in 2006, the pool now receives more than a quarter of a million visitors every year. London Fields lido is a 50m Olympic size swimming pool with lane swimming available for the whole day, swimming lessons for kids and adults as well as one-to-one coaching. Cafe and sundeck on site. Open all year round seven days a week rain or shine.
Escape rooms are almost as common now as local craft breweries. If you’re seeking an alternative source of entertainment then Time Run in London Fields is definitely for you. If you are unfamiliar with the concept then here is a bit of a catch up. You and 2-4 other friends are locked in a room. You have one hour or so to break codes and decipher clues to make your way out of the locked room. Time Run conjure up extraordinary scenarios and transport you into a variety of fantasy locations. Time Brand is for friends and families, gaming enthusiasts, alternative fun seekers and even corporate team building. Open Tuesday – Sunday. Enquire for bookings.
Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities
For a completely off the wall experience, probably like no other you’ve had, this is a must see. Advisory – adults only. Again, not for kids. This museum is a collection of all things wonderfully wacky including but not limited to: dodo bones, two headed lambs, taxidermy (lots of), seashells and Modern British art. Open Wed-Fri 12-10.30pm and Sat-Sun 10am – 10.30pm.
Staying up late
Located in central Hackney, the previously abandoned and sad looking Hackney rail station has been transformed into a trendy restaurant, bar and club. Whether you are after a quieter day time drinking hole or a romping Saturday night out, this venue has it all. As the name might suggest, Oslo is a Scandinavian inspired set up with some norse inspired cuisine and plenty of craft beer on tap. The venue also boasts a range of live musical events almost every day of the week. A perfect place to meet with a group of friends. Open 12 until late weekdays and even later on weekends.
The Institute of Light
Visible from our restaurant, The Institute of Light could be described as a one stop hub of culture – cinema, restaurant, bar, record shop and event space. Tucked into the railway arches, the IOL fits perfectly into the growing community of creatives in London Fields. Films old and new are screened daily from 6pm-10pm. As an added bonus, tickets are the cheapest going in Hackney. For a sophisticated, relaxed and reasonable evening out, check out the IOL.
The list goes on and on but that’s as much as we will reveal for now. As mentioned previously, Fold is only a stone’s throw from all of these great activities. You can find us at 20 Sidworth St, Hackney, E8 3SD.
